The municipality of Santa María del Río share border in the North with the municipalities of Zaragoza, Ciudad Fernández and Rioverde, at East with the municipality of Rioverde, in the South with Tierranueva and the state of Guanajuato and in the west border with Villa de Reyes municipality; 52 kilometers away from the capital of the state by the highway 57.
