To explain the origin of this hotel, we must first mention the one for the now known as the "River Labor" Ex-Hacienda in the municipality of Santa Maria del Rio, in the state of San Luis Potosi.
The "River Labor" Hacienda was built by Spaniards in that municipality, in the Santa Maria River.
Their construction was made in three stages with the influence of different Spaniard and french families. The town of Santa Maria del Rio was founded by the Huachichiles and Otomies town.
In the year 1530 the first spaniard towns emerged in what we now know as the "River Labor" Ex-Hacienda. In 1550 it began to take shape and in 1580 the construction of this Hacienda was restarted before the town of Santa Maria del Rio was established between 1589-1604. There is confusion about the exact date of foundation of this head municipality.
After the Spaniard conquest, a fight for decades originated between the same conquerors because of land possession, money and power. The native groups, the Huachichiles and Otomies among them, ran away from war and started to give their lands and hills with water, that according to them, thanks to their gods were healing.
At the start of the year 1600 when the native groups started to lose their lands, they extended to the "River Labor" Ex-Hacienda until they acquired a hill named "Atotepec" from where the water that healed their sickness came out.
It wasn't until the second half of the XVIII century when we have dates of historical data from the zone. In the year 1760 the Santa Maria del Rio church was created and along with it the "River Labor" church, that was never concluded by the constant change of owners. It's been said that the church located next to the Hacienda was not a construction planned as such, because in the beginning they were grain yards where the production from the Hacienda was stored.
In 1833 the spaniards started to come back and with their help decided to stay in the country. At this stage it is believed that a new owner was placed, a spaniard, in the native land of "Atotepec".
In the year 1878, the "River Labor", among other Haciendas was officially registered in the Santa Maria del Rio Municipality.
The hotel as such, is located right next to the hill identified as "Atotepec" in this historical story at 1 km. upside the river where all edifications of the "River Labor" Ex-Hacienda is now located.
The Lourdes Hotel Campestre is built on the north side of the Santa Maria River, right next to the spring mineral water that is a part of what is now called “Virgin Hill”.
Construction started at the end of the XIX century, with the purpose of giving shelter to the people that were already looking for the therapeutic benefits of mineral water.
After two expansions and a makeover, its had its presence since the 60’s. In 1992 the construction of the Meeting Rooms and the road pavement was concluded.
